2006 Installation: Mayoral Wannabees Visit Queens Civics; New Officers Installed at QCC Legislative Reception

The Annual Legislative Reception of the Queens Civic Congress featured more than the traditional opportunity for pols and civic leaders to chat, make friends and talk issues as two unannounced would-be Mayors joined one announced one in visiting the coalition of over 100 civic, community, condo, co-operative, homeowner and tenant organizations representing almost every community in the borough, said QCC President Sean M. Walsh. City Comptroller William Thompson and Member of Congress Anthony Weiner, as well as announced mayoral candidate Tony Avella, a Queens Councilman, chatted with civic leaders from across the borough during their visits at the reception held at the Douglaston Club, Saturday, December 2. Comptroller Thompson also installed the QCC officers in the one formal part of a very informal event, said Corey B. Bearak, Executive Vice President for Legislative and Public Affairs.
Mr. Bearak who coordinated the invitations to the elected officials, said the civic leaders also enjoyed one on one discussions with such elected officials as City Comptroller William Thompson, Member of Congress Anthony Weiner, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer (who may also seek citywide office in 2009), State Senator Frank Padavan, Members of the Assembly Barbara Clark, Rory Lancman, William Scarborough and Mark Weprin and Council Members Tony Avella, John Liu, Leroy Comrie, James Gennaro, Eric Gioia, and Councilman David Weprin's representative, Jack Friedman. Two Community Board chairs attended: Community Board 3's Ivan Markovic and Community Board 13's Rich Hellenbrecht.
The Queens Civic Congress 2006-2007 officers installed by Comptroller Thompson were: President Walsh (Douglaston Civic Association), Executive Vice Presidents Corey Bearak (North Bellerose) and Patricia Dolan (Kew Gardens Hills); Treasurer James Trent (Creedmoor); Secretary: Seymour Schwartz (Briarwood); and Vice Presidents Tyler Cassell (North Flushing), Richard Hellenbrecht (Bellerose-Commonwealth), Paul Kerzner (Ridgewood Property Owners and Civic), David Kulick (Flushing on the Hill), Audrey Lucas (Southeast Queens Concerned Neighbors) , Nagassar Ramgarib (Queens Village), Edwin Westley (Jackson Heights), and Dorothy Woo (Holly Civic)
